The magic begins before the ride even starts, as strolling musicians perform for passengers on the platform. The Sweetheart Express includes refreshing mimosas, followed by an enjoyable champagne brunch and dancing at River Ranch in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards. During the return trip from the Stockyards to Grapevine, passengers will receive sweet treats from Grapevine merchants to commemorate the occasion.
The Sweetheart Express departs the Cotton Belt Depot at 10:15 a.m. and returns at approximately 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $80 per person and must be purchased in advance at GVRR.com or by calling 817-410-3123.

Flashback to the 60s at the Beatlegras concert. Beatlegras is a nice fusion between acoustic blue grass music and popular Beatles’ songs.

The trio features Dave Walser on guitar and two of his longtime friends, upright bassist George Anderson and Milo Deering, playing everything from mandolin and fiddle to guitar and dobro. North Texans Will Soon Be Skiing…in Grapevine?

The World Villages of Grapevine (Texas) will soon begin construction on a $70 million indoor ski slope called Texas Alps, between State Highways 121 and 2499, adjacent to the Grapevine Mills Mall.

The slope, 175 feet tall, 600 feet long and 328 feet wide, will feature extreme skiing, snowboarding, tubing, skiing for beginners and snow play. It will also feature a indoor ice wall for climbing, luge track as well as two outdoor mountain climbing courses on artificial mountains standing as much as 100 feet tall.

Texas Alps is being built by Snow Sport Entertainment which has successfully built three indoor courses in the U.K.. Construction on the project begins soon, with the target opening slated for July, 2011.

GYB Becomes Grapevine Baseball and Softball Association

Here is some new and exciting information for residents of Grapevine, Texas. As of January 1, 2010, Grapevine Youth Baseball (GYB) is officially changing its name to Grapevine Baseball and Softball Association (GBSA) and will be offering a softball program for girls playing Coach Pitch (7U) and above.

GBSA is looking forward to providing girls softball in 2010. To make sure that area girls have the best program, GBSA will strive to offer softball leagues that rival and exceed those offered by other cities.

One of the places in Grapevine GBSA will play games, will be at The Oak Grove Ballfield Complex. Located at 2520 Oak Grove Loop South Grapevine, Texas 76051

The 12+ million dollar complex features seven baseball fields ranging in size from blast-ball (3-4 year olds) to a full size Colt/Varsity field (Ages 15-18), two multipurpose softball/baseball fields, four batting cages, sixteen soft toss stations, 800,000 square feet of new turf grass, a concession area, mens/womens/family restrooms, a custom state-of-the-art playground, 275 new trees planted on-site, 270-1,000 watt sports lights on 49 poles, and 310 parking spaces.

The complex also includes an environmentally friendly pumping system to pump untreated water from Lake Grapevine for irrigating the fields.The park is a first in Grapevine with such a huge “green” aspect. A man-made pond has been added to the facility measuring 2.7 acres with a pond capacity of 3.5 million gallons of water. This water, pulled from lake Grapevine, irrigates the baseball, softball, and soccer fields at Oak Grove Park saving dollars by the use of raw water versus treated water.

With Lake Grapevine as the backdrop of Oak Grove Park Ballfield Complex, this incredible facility is one of the most state-of-the-art sports complexes of its kind in North Texas.
