As the calendar turns to September, fall is in the air, temperatures are getting cooler, kids are back in school and football is soon to be in full frenzy. And in Grapevine, the premier destination in North Texas, September is a time to celebrate Texas wines and more at GrapeFest, the largest wine festival in the Southwest. SummerBlast Fireworks Friday, September 3 Last show of the season Over Lake Grapevine 9:30 p.m. There is still time to catch Friday Fireworks! The skies overlooking Grapevine will be filled with a glowing array of fantastic colors as the city presents a fireworks spectacular every Friday night. Ideal viewing spots are available at the rooftop of the Gaylord Texan’s parking garage, from the Glass Cactus and along the shores of Lake Grapevine, including the lakeside parks. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Grapevine Heritage Foundation. 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial Foundation 1000 Texan Trail September 11 “Lowering of the Flag” Ceremony 7:30 a.m. Candlelight Vigil 8 p.m. Hosted by the members of the 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial Foundation, Allied Pilots Association and the Lake Grapevine Runners & Walkers Club. Both ceremonies will honor firefighters, police officers and flight crews. Join in at the 911 Memorial site, at the corner of Northwest Hwy and Texan Trail. Light a candle, see images of our heros, join in a lifetime remembrance. 9/11/2001 heros stepped forward, 9/11/2010 hereos will be honored. ItalianCarFest Nash Farm 626 Ball St. September 11 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The Italian Car Club of the Southwest is proud to present ItalianCarFest, the finest show of all-Italian vehicles in the Southwest. See 100 automobiles and two-wheelers. This event is free to the public. GrapeFest Vintners’ Auction Classic Grapevine Convention Center 1209 S. Main St. September 11 6:30 p.m. The Vintners’ Auction Classic is a fun event with great food & beverages, wonderful entertainment, outstanding auction items and supports two worthy beneficiaries, the Grapevine Heritage Foundation and the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association. Main St. Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. Great Train Robberies Saturdays & Sundays through September 5 Labor Day Train September 6 Bring the family out to enjoy a great train robbery on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad on Labor Day. Grandparents Day September 12 Celebrate Grandparents Day, aboard the train. Grandparents ride free when accompanied by their grandchildren and a paying passenger. The Grapevine Vintage Railroad travels along the historic Cotton Belt Route between Grapevine and the Fort Worth Stockyards. The railroad is serviced by two vintage locomotives which include “Puffy,” built in 1896, the oldest continuously operating steam engine in the South, and “Vinny,” the 1953 GP-7 diesel. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children, and $18 for seniors.
