Traditions are cherished in the City of Grapevine…Independence Day wouldn’t be complete without the traditional, vibrant Fireworks Extravaganza.  So, find your spot and stake a claim near Lake Grapevine on Sunday, July 4 to watch fireworks illuminate the night sky at the 28th Annual Fireworks Extravaganza!  The fireworks will be launched off the shores of beautiful Oak Grove Park at 9:30 p.m., but the blasts can be viewed from any lakeside location.

Tune into 98.7 FM KLUV to listen to a live musical accompaniment to the Fireworks Extravaganza, featuring customized patriotic music synchronized with a nearly 30-minute spectacular fireworks display.

In Roger’s & Hammerstien’s Oklahoma!(1955) A couple of young cowboys win the hearts of their sweethearts in the Oklahoma territory at the turn of the century. See the classic Cool Hand Luke on the big screen! Luke Jackson (Paul Newman) is a cool, gutsy prisoner in a Southern chain gang, who, while refusing to buckle under to authority, keeps escaping and being recaptured.  Then on July 16, come back for His Girl Friday with the one and only Cary Grant.

The USTA Grapevine Women’s $50,000 Tennis Classic is taking place at Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine. This is the largest women’s tennis competition in Texas and a U.S. Open qualifier. The event, which begins the day after the 2010 Wimbledon Finals, will have some new attractions, additional covered seating and night matches this year in addition to the daytime action. Players ranked as high as No. 40 in the world typically compete in these Pro Circuit events. The four winners of the qualifying tournament will receive a spot in the main draw of the tournament.

The Grapevine Vintage Railroad travels along the historic Cotton Belt Route between Grapevine and the Fort Worth Stockyards. The railroad is serviced by two vintage locomotives which include “Puffy,” the 1896 steam locomotive and oldest continuously operating steam engine in the South, and a 1953 GP-7 diesel locomotive.  Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children, and $18 for seniors.

The Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau joins other organizations and cities across the United States in the annual salute to travel and tourism in America with National Travel and Tourism Week.

Visitors to Grapevine will be given an “Official Grapevine Visitor” sticker when they stop by the Visitor Information Center.  Participating merchants in Historic Downtown Grapevine will provide discounts to visitors who present their sticker during National Travel and Tourism Week. Then on May 12, Visitor Appreciation Day, visitors can enjoy complimentary cookies at the Visitor Information Center.

Discover the adventures waiting for you at Grapevine’s 26th Annual Main Street Outdoor Adventure festival on May 21, 22 & 23.  This fun-filled adventure in Historic Downtown Grapevine highlights the city as the ideal place to enjoy an active lifestyle and the great outdoors.  Kick off summer in Grapevine where families gather for that ultimate grillin’, chillin’ and thrillin’ experience!  Festivities include an outdoor exhibition featuring interactive activities and grilling demonstrations. Festival guests will have the opportunity to watch and/or participate in scuba diving, BMX stunts, trampoline acrobat stunts, quad bungee jumping, kayaking, carnival and midway, and much more. The West Coast Wine Experience, showcasing wines from Washington, Oregon and California, is one of the latest additions to Main Street Outdoor Adventure this year. Le Baron Ranch and 1221 wines from Sonoma County will be featured among several other West Coast wines.  Unlimited ride passes for the carnival are available Friday night from 4 p.m. - 9 p.m.  Purchase online in advance for $25 or during the festival for $30 each.

The Sweetheart Express includes refreshing mimosas, followed by an enjoyable champagne brunch and dancing at River Ranch in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards. During the return trip from the Stockyards to Grapevine, passengers will receive sweet treats from Grapevine merchants to commemorate the occasion.
The Sweetheart Express departs the Cotton Belt Depot at 10:15 a.m. and returns at approximately 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $80 per person and must be purchased in advance at

The trio features Dave Walser on guitar and two of his longtime friends, upright bassist George Anderson and Milo Deering, playing everything from mandolin and fiddle to guitar and dobro.  The group often opens shows with a medley of Hello Goodbye, Back in the USSR and Sgt. Hosted by Mrs. Claus (while her husband is busy getting ready for his big night), this is the “official” kick-off to the Christmas season in Grapevine where the Mayor “flips the switch” to light millions of lights throughout Historic Downtown Grapevine, including the 35′ community Christmas tree. The community is invited to join in singing in the season with youth choirs and special performers celebrating a mix of traditional and contemporary holiday favorites. The event also includes the Light Show Spectacular that involves all of Town Square, including the gazebo, seven live Oak trees, nine “mini” trees, and three arches choreographed to music. Refreshments provided.

Be sure to stop by, as the Christmas Light Show Spectacular will delight the young and young at heart as it plays from December 1 through January 3 from 6:00 p.m. to 10 p.m.  The Light Show will play nightly on the hour and half-hour at the Town Square Gazebo. FREE!

North Texas’ largest lighted Christmas parade, the Parade of Lights, will dazzle thousands of merrymakers with a captivating display of over 100 colorfully lighted floats, which pass through Historic Downtown Grapevine to the tunes of festive holiday music provided by numerous marching bands. The parade begins at Main Street and Vine Street and heads north on Main Street to Wall Street.

Home for the Holidays is a true Broadway-style musical Christmas stage show presented at the Palace Arts Center in Grapevine, Texas. The 80-minute revue combines singing, dancing and light humor with traditional scenes in Christmas-themed stage settings. The railroad is serviced by two vintage locomotives which include “Puffy” the 1896 steam locomotive and oldest continuously operating steam engine in the South, and a 1953 GP-7 diesel locomotive.  Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children, and $18 for seniors.

The Texas Music Project, in partnership with Septien Entertainment Group, Radio Disney, Media Tech Institute, Lone Star Attitude and The City of Grapevine Texas, will host a Fundraiser and Talent Contest on October 10, 2009 at the Palace Theater in Grapevine, Texas.
The event will feature a Talent Contest with prizes, a performance by the Velocity Pop Tour (Septien Entertainment Group) and The Lone Star Attitude Band. This event is promoting new rising stars in Texas and honoring the Legends of Texas music with a concert by Lone Star Attitude. The event will be videotaped by Media Tech Institute. Deadline for Contest entries is October 5th.

The Texas Family Musicals is bringing the Pulitzer Prize-nominated non-musical play, Love Letters, to the beautiful Palace Theatre in Grapevine.  A truly imaginative and creative theater piece, Love Letters,  is comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together and went their separate ways, but continue to share confidences.  The play — as the actors read the letters aloud — creates many evocative, touching, frequently funny and always telling situations between male and female characters.  Starring two of TV’s most popular actors who are appearing for the first time together…Tony Dow (Leave it to Beaver) and Judy Norton (The Waltons).

Calling all kids - come to Grapevine to celebrate the migration of the Monarch Butterfly from Canada to Mexico. Grapevine is on their path! This fun-for-the-whole-family event includes releases of butterflies and a Gossamer Parade. Enjoy butterfly exhibits, interactive butterfly arts and crafts, plus live entertainment.

The parade will line up at 9:30 a.m. at Liberty Park (corner of East Wall and Main Street) and proceed down Main Street to the Cotton Belt Railroad District.

North Texas’ best storytellers will chill the audience with their scariest, ghostly stories in this annual tradition. For thousands of years, our basic form of communication has been storytelling. It stimulates the imagination. A gifted storyteller enables individuals to experience adventures via the painting of  words in their mind’s eye. Enjoy spooky tales told by local favorites Sandra McGee, Helen Garrison, Liz Covington, Bob Northcraft, Ron Pate and Tom Freedman.  Free for all, bring an outdoor chair and a blanket.

Grapevine Vintage Railroad

The Grapevine Vintage Railroad travels along the historic Cotton Belt Route between Grapevine and the Fort Worth Stockyards. The railroad is serviced by two vintage locomotives which include “Puffy” the 1896 steam locomotive and oldest continuously operating steam engine in the South, and a 1953 GP-7 diesel locomotive.  Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children, and $18 for seniors.
